9 Reasons Why Dropshipping from China is a Bad Idea

Thanks for joining us on the Launch Commerce Ultimate eCommerce Blog.  In this article, we’re going to discuss 9 Reasons Why Dropshipping from China is a Bad Idea.

As promised, these two posts are the only two posts that will ever be on the Ultimate eCommerce blog talking about dropshipping from China.

But we wanted to give people the truth about this flawed eCommerce business model. And in fact, we have 9 reasons as such to cover in today’s episode so we’ll jump right into it.

1. Too Much Competition – I’ll be the first to tell you to never to be afraid of competition.  In fact, competition means that you are in a healthy industry and you actually WANT competition in your industry.

But that is when you have something of your own […]

Ultimate eCommerce Podcast – Episode 2 – Why Starting a Dropshipping Business is a Waste of Time

In this episode, I talk about the reality of dropshipping using a site like AliExpress and Oberlo, and why putting any time into a business like that is a complete waste of time.

If you are thinking about starting an eCommerce business and have heard a thing or two about dropshipping, I encourage you to listen to this episode before making any decisions.

We have a companion post on the blog as well if you’d like this episode in written form.  We’re also very close to releasing more educational and informative products to help you, all based on my own 20+ year career in eCommerce, so that you can learn everything I know – but in a lot less time.  We’ll have new products available soon, as well as various training courses and […]

Why Starting a Dropshipping Business is a Waste of Time

This is part one of a two-part series on why Dropshipping is a Waste of Time.

For many of you, if you’ve been thinking about starting a business recently, or selling online, then certainly you’ve been inundated by numerous ads and people pitching dropshipping courses.

In fact, the first time you searched Google, Youtube or Facebook for a phrase such as “start an eCommerce business”, you instantly became an ad target of people, perhaps claiming to be successful store owners themselves, trying to reach out to help you start a dropshipping business, promoting this type of business model in some form or another.

And if you’re a beginner who is looking to learn the best way to start an eCommerce business and have success long term, then perhaps some of these ads and […]

9 Best eCommerce Business Models (and 1 That Sucks)

This article is to help you learn the 9 Best eCommerce Business Models and the one that is a complete waste of your valuable time.

After 20 years of being in the eCommerce industry, I’ve seen and done what feels like everything possible. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of eCommerce.  I’ve been a part of incredible teams with incredibly smart people, and I’ve worked with and mentored very junior people that still had a lot to learn.

I’ve started multiple businesses of my own and have worked with many passionate people who launched their own businesses. I’ve worked my way up from being a 22-year-old kid in 1997, knowing nothing at all about eCommerce, to someone who busted his ass off and found a way into $200k+ per year jobs leading eCommerce businesses […]

Product Analysis Using Google Trends

I’ve been asked a lot recently to expand on my earlier article on Choosing the Right Product, so I think it is a good time to go into a little bit of a deep dive to help people find that thing that really clicks with them.  And when I say a little bit of a deep dive, I can’t make any promises exactly how deep this is going to get.  Whe...

My goal, simply put, is for this site to become a destination for all things eCommerce, where people can come and learn everything that they need to know to start or improve their existing eCommerce business.  It will be a place where I can share my experience from over 20 years in the eCommerce industry and hopefully make eCommerce a bit less intimidating and overwhelming to you.

Comparing eCommerce Platforms

Which is the right eCommerce platform for you?  Depending on your unique case, there could be different answers to that question.  For many of you reading, looking to start your very first eCommerce site, the answer is obviously going to be different than a big company with business teams and web developers. But in some cases, it may actually be the same answer. It really depends on what you need, what your budget is, and what you plan to do with your eCommerce business.

I’ll start with what is the most popular eCommerce platform in the world right now – Shopify.  Personally, I’ve been a Shopify user for over 7 years now, and I’ve seen it come a very long way during that time.  As the VP of eCommerce for theChive, I led what was at the time the largest […]

Choosing the Right Product / Design

The first and most important thing that you need to determine when starting your eCommerce business is determining your niche / product / design component.  After all, as you can imagine, if you don’t have a product, then none of the other pieces will matter at all.

This is where most people fail.  They fail to think about this topic, or they fail to come up with a good idea.  It doesn’t matter what your product is, if it is digital or physical, dropship or inventory, inexpensive or very pricey.  You don’t have to start a store with hundreds or even dozens of products, especially if you’re launching your own brand of something. Hell, maybe you only have one product in your store. As long as it meets certain criteria, you will get a green light to move on to […]

Starting Your Own eCommerce Business

Nowadays it seems like everyone and their grandmother (and in a lot of cases, literally grandmothers) want to start an eCommerce business.  It’s never been easier to do, quite honestly, as the barrier to entry is virtually non-existent. Because of that, everyone thinks they can follow a few steps from some marketing gurus selling snake oil, er, ecommerce courses online, dropship a few items from some manufacturer in China and be an overnight success and make millions of dollars in the eCommerce world.  If it were that easy, everyone would be doing it.  And right now it seems like everyone is trying to do that exact thing.  Just remember, there is a big difference between “being in ecommerce”, and “being successful in ecommerce”.

Having no barrier to entry means that the market has quickly flooded with people who, to be […]
